Melanie Rashbrooke

Melanie Rashbrooke is a theatre-maker, director and writer based in Newcastle upon Tyne. She founded The Six Twenty to make theatre that feels social, welcoming and alive.

Her work often mixes theatre, music and audience interaction, creating experiences where the audience is part of the story rather than watching quietly from the sidelines.

Melanie’s work has been presented at theatres and festivals across the UK including Live Theatre, Traverse Theatre, Hull Truck and Northern Stage. Alongside touring productions, she regularly develops community-led and site-specific work in partnership with organisations, venues and local groups.

She has worked with companies including Novo Theatre, The Paper Birds, Live Theatre, Pilot Theatre, Improbable and Gateshead International Festival of Theatre, and has created projects with young people, community groups and artists across the North East.

At the heart of her work is a belief that theatre should feel shared, joyful and human — a space where stories bring people together and where audiences leave feeling connected.
